What is Massage Therapy?
Massage Therapy involves a range of techniques to assess and manipulate the soft tissues and joints of the body. The purpose of massage therapy is to prevent, develop, maintain, rehabilitate or increase physical function or relieve pain.
Massage therapy is a clinically-oriented health option that can help alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday stress, muscular overuse and many chronic pain syndromes.
The profession of massage therapy is regulated in the Province of Ontario under the Regulated Health Professions Act and the associated legislation the Massage Therapy Act.
What is a Registered Massage Therapist?
Let a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) be part of your health care team! As an individual who is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO), and in accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Massage Therapy Act, your RMT has proven they are competent to perform massage therapy. Only members of the CMTO are permitted to use the title and designation of Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) or Massage Therapist (MT). Registered Massage Therapists are issued a registration number which is shown on their membership certificate and on their identification card.
